Milky Way over Mt. Hood

Yay it’s the weekend! Today I bring you my first big attempt at Milky Way photography . . .

I had planned it all out – the date, the moon cycle, the position of the Milky Way Galaxy, the direction I had to face, the darkest area of sky . . . turns out you have to get pretty far from the city to really get this down. And talk about crazy camera settings! My ISO was through the roof to catch all of the stars.

I got to my planned location about an hour after sunset. As I waited for true dark, I took a few test shots. It was amazing to watch the progression. I drove back at the end of the night, utterly exhausted but so satisfied.
